ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Judicial Council(NJC) has directed all judges in Nigeria to suspend sitting with effects from Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

In a statement signed by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammed, who is also the Chairman of the National Judicial Council(NJC), said in view of the COVID-19 situation in Nigeria, and in order to take further preventive steps, all Heads of courts, from tomorrow, the 24th day of March, 2020 directed to suspend court sitting for an initial period of two weeks in the first instance.

The circular said justice are permitted to sit in matters that are urgent, essential or time bound according to extant laws,

“Your Lordship are hereby directed to bring the content of this circular to the notice of all stakeholders in the justice administration”, he said.
