ONITSA, Anambra, Nigeria – The people of Ikenga in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state have petitioned the State Commissioner of Police John Abang over the release of two persons suspects alleged to have shot 11 youths in the community.
The two suspects are Amaeze Ezukama and Orakwue Ikebuilo. In their petition to the State Commissioner of Police by their lawyer, B. S Onuegbu Esq., they called on the commissioner of police to ensure that justice is done as to avoid further occurrence of such incidence in the community.

According to the petition dated March 9, 2020, they said that the youths of Ikenga Ogidi are optimistic that justice would be done to avoid a situation whereby the youths will see the justice system as being weak.
They expressed worry over the manner the two arrested suspects were released immediately without the DPO of Ogidi Police Station charging them to court, even when they were found with riffles .
According to a source , trouble started when the former President of Ikenga Ogidi, Hon. Amechi Ekume summoned a meeting to settle disputes between two waring groups in the community.
The source said on their way to the meeting, some youths were attacked by some people suspected to be from the camp of one of the warring groups. According to the source, the attackers inflicted matchete cuts on the youths and everybody ran away.

The source further said , the assailants went from house to house to further attack their perceived enemies. Among those wounded include Ndubuisi Nwabufo, Izuchukwu Oraka, Ikechukwu Achebe and Okwudili Achebe. Others are Abuchi Iweka, Emeka Nrabalu, Onyinye Obianagha and Arinze Obiaku.
Our investigation revealed that immediately after the shootings, a community leader Rev. Dr. Emma Obianagha telephoned the Ogidi Divisional Police Officer who lured the two suspects, Amaeze Ezukama and Orakwue Ikebuilo to the police station and they were arrested and detained.
But however, it didn’t take long before the two suspects were released.
The spoke person of Anambra police command Haruna Mohammed when contracted on phone, said he was not aware of the petition or the incident and that he was hearing it for the first time. He, however said that , the Commissioner of Police will give directive for proper investigation of the petition.
