ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Anambra state command has vowed to sanitise local product in the state. According to the state coordinator of SON, Engr. Olalekan Omoniyi, the agency is strategising working to ensure that goods produced in state are certified for human consumption.
He stated this in Awka Anambra state capital during a one-day Stakeholders collaboration workshop with the Theme; Promoting Made In Nigeria Products”
He stated that with the adequate support and collaboration from stakeholders in Anambra state, the organisation would eradicate substandards and fake products in the state so that people will consume only certified goods. He said the organisation is enforcing compliance, through various standards like MANCAP, SONCAP emblems and other logos on products to let customers differentiate between substandard and counterfeit products from the good ones.
He called on patriotic Nigerians to collaborate with SON to stamp out substandard and fake products in the society.
“Our responsibility is not only to test products but also to educate the public about the hazard and adverse effects of fake or substandard goods on the health of the people”he added. He cautioned Anambra residents against endangering themselves and family by patronising substandard products in the market.
He disclosed that the organization was in good working relationship with National Agency For Food Drugs control (NAFDC) and Customs in the state to ensure total rid off fake products. The South East Regional co-ordinator of SON Engr Sampson Okpe said that the agency would do anything rid the zone off of substandard and fake products.
According to him, the purpose of the workshop was to educate the consumers on the danger of patronizing products without SON certification emblems. He cautioned people against patronizing any product without certification from SON.
