NJC okays 33 judicial officers for elevation as judges and head of courts

ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Judicial Council under the Chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Dr. Justice I. T. Muhammad has approved the recommendation of 33 successful candidates for appointment as judges and other Judicial Officers for Anambra, Kebbi, Cross River, Zamfara, Ogun, Osun, Rivers, Imo, Sokoto, Ekiti and Niger States.

The 33 successful candidates were among those recommended by the governors to the NJC for interview and appointment as judges and other Judicial Officers in Nigeria. The NJC gave the approval at the 17th and 18th December, 2019 after considering the list of candidates presented to its by Interview Committee.

Hon. Justice Onochie Manasseh Anyachebelu was approved by the NJC for elevation to the position of Chief Judge, Anambra State High Court, while Hon. Justice Mohammed Suleiman Ambursa was equally approved for appointment as Chief Judge of Kebbi state.

The NJC also approved elevation of Hon. Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme as Chief Judge, Cross River State High Courts, while Hon. Kadi Umaru Muhammad Gusau was approved for elevation as Grand Kadi, Zamfara state Sharia Court of Appeal.

Hon. Justice Mobolaji Ayodele Ojo was approved by the NJC for elevation as President Customary Court of Appeal, Ogun State while Hon. Justice Foluke Eunice Awolalu was equally okayed for elevation as President Customary Court of Appeal, Osun State.

The NJC graciously approved four other judicial officers , namely   Stephens Dirialakeibama Jumbo, Chuku Mark Onyema, Ngbor-Abina Lemea and Fibresima Florence Atili for elevation as judges for Rivers State High Court of justice.

Two other judicial officers namely Olufunmilayo .O. Stanley and Olukemi Olusola Yetunde Oresanya were okayed by the NJC for elevation as Judges of Ogun State High Courts.

As for Imo State, the NJC graciously okayed 7 judicial officers, namely Onyeka Vincent Ifeanyichukwu, Leweanya Kechinyere A, Victoria Chinyere Isiguzo, Vivian O. B. Ekezie, Eze Nonye Eke, Ihuoma Grace Chukwunyere and Ibeawuchi Edith Chinyere for promotion as as Judges for Imo State High Court of Justice.

In thesame vain, the NJC agreed that    Aminu Garba Sifawa, Mohammed Mohammed and Raliya Uthman Muhammad be elevated to Judges of Sokoto State High Court, while one judge, Obafemi Makanju Fasanmi was approved for elevation as Judge, Ekiti State High Court.

The NJC also okayed three officers, namely Salisu Alhassan Majidadi, Binta Bawa and Danladi Ahmad for elevation to judtes of Niger State High Courts of Justice while Bello Khalid Jega was approved for elevation as Kadi, Kebbi State Sharia Court of Appeal. The NJC also approved Amadi Ericonda as Judge for Customary Court of Appeal, Rivers State while three judicial officers were okayed by the NJC for elevation as judges in Ogun State. The three judicial officers are Michael Kolawole Peters, Anthony Olusesan Araba and Adebisi Olusola Femi-Segun.

The NJC according to the statement by Soji Oye, Director of Information, also okayed two judges for elevation as judtes Customary Court of Appeal in Imo State. The lucky judicial officers are Obichere Ijeoma Josephine and Nze Ifeanyi Tennyson.

He said all recommended candidates are expected to be sworn-in after approval by their respective State Governors and confirmation by the respective State House of Assembly.
