WOODSTOCK, CONN, United States – Caroll Spinney, th creator and main character in the iconic agelong children Muppets television show, SESAME STREET is dead. He was 85. He died on Sunday at his home in Woodstock, Conn.
Mr. Spinney performed his characters in live concerts around the world and was at the White House many times. He has featured in films, documentaries and record albums. Caroll Spinney died on Sunday at his home in Woodstock, Connecticut, Same Workshop said in a statement.
Caroll Spinney of the Sesame Street “had lived for some time with dystonia, which causes involuntary muscle contractions”, the statement added.
Caroll Spinney was a fun to watch on Sesame Street, appearing in various colours and in different animals entertaining kids and making them learn in a smart way.
“Sometimes he stood 8 feet 2 inches tall. Sometimes he lived in a garbage can. He often cited numbers and letters of the alphabet, and for nearly a half century on “Sesame Street” he was Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, opening magic doors for children on the secrets of growing up and the gentle arts of friendship”, the New York Times said of Caroll Spinney.
Sesame Workshop is the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street and so much more. Its mission is to help kids everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder.
