IBADAN, Oyo, Nigeria – The management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company(IBEDC) says there are procedures that must be adhered to in energising transformers.

Its Head, Branding and Corporate Communications, Mrs Angela Olarenwaju, said this in a statement on Friday while reacting to a recent publication over alleged refusal by the company to energise donated transformers.

According to her, a major procedure is the issuance of a Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) certificate, without which no transformer can be energised.

“Furthermore, the agency issued a circular in June this year as part of their statutory functions, placing embargo on the energisation of 33KV Transformers. IBEDC is a customer-centric organisation, poised to keep improving on our service delivery despite the humongous challenges bedeviling the sector.

“We do not operate outside and or beyond the stipulated procedure for energising transformers, and as a NERC- regulated and compliant company, we are working within these confines to prevent obvious sanctions,” she said.

She,however,  advised  the communities to follow the due process for a mutually beneficial relationship. According to Olanrewaju, the said transformers are  500KVA, 33/0.415KV donated by Chief Emmanuel Ogunaike, chairman of FOL-HOPE Ltd., a patron of Oke-Omi community as part of his Corporate Social Responsibility.

She appreciated Oke-Omi community and others for their partnership in ensuring power supply to the people, saying IBEDC remained  committed to meeting the needs and yearnings of its sustomers.
