ABUJA, Nigeria – President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the sum of N10 billion for upgrade of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
President Buhari who made the revelation on his social media account said he has the assurance of the Minister of Aviation that the work will be done speedily and to the highest standard.
Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari : “I have approved the sum of 10 billion Naira for an Intervention fund for the upgrade of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
“I have the assurance of the Minister of Aviation that the work will be done speedily and to the highest standards”, the president said.
The Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu is named after the late Akanu Ibiam, a distinguished medical doctor and former governor of Eastern Region, Nigeria. It is one of the five international airports in the country and home to an impressive 3,000-metre runway.
Akanu Ibiam International Airport remains a major airport for domestic arrivals and departures to other major cities in Nigeria, and international arrivals and departures from a number of countries around the world.
Airlines that land at Akanu Ibiam International Airport include Arik Air, Air Peace, and Ethiopian Airlines. The airport is approximately 20 minutes from the city centre of Enugu.
