Confirms attacks on facilities in Lagos, Ibadan, Uyo

LAGOS, Nigeria – MTN Nigeria today confirmed that its facilities, customers and stakeholders have been subject of attacks in retaliation againt Xenophobic attacks in South Africa. At least 120 Nigerians have been killed in Xenophobic attacks, some burnt to death, with their means of livelihood decimated.
In a statement on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Company Secretary, Uto Ukpanah said “we have confirmed reports of attacks in Lagos, Ibadan and Uyo.
He added that in the circumstances, all stores and service centres operated by the company have been closed until further notice.
” While we remain committed to providing uninterrupted services, the safety and security of our customers, staff and partners is our primary concern. All MTN stores and service centres will therefore be closed as a precaution until further notice”, Ukpana said in the statement.
According to him, MTN condemns any acts of violence, prejudice and xenophobia and remains absolutely committed to ensuring a peaceful, harmonious and respectful relationship with all communities in Nigeria and across Africa.
“We are engaging all relevant authorities in this regard and urge them to act swiftly to reduce tension both in South Africa and Nigeria”, he said.
