Donald Duke pays N340 million in AMCON’s debt settlement case

IKOYI, Nigeria – A presidential candidate of social democratic party (SDP) in the just concluded 2019 general election, Mr Donald Duke has cleared the air, on his debt case with AMCON, stressing that the amount he agreed with AMCON is an outstanding payment to the tune of N340 million against N569 million which is the disputed amount. 

Duke, a two term former Governor of cross River state also said that upon the agreement, both parties meet at a consensus to pay the sum of N340 million as final settlement. 

“AMCON made a claim of N569m against me which I disputed. I guess to arm twist me they proceeded to court and created a media circus.  Having done what I consider their worst, I insisted on what I believe is the correct amount. We have since agreed to this amount and  the sum of N340 million has been  paid. “

“I hope this takes the air off the sail of those who made a mountain out of a molehill.  There was nothing to be excited about after all”, Duke said.  

Justice Nicholas Oweibo sitting in Federal high court Lagos had on Wednesday discharge the order granted to Asset management Corporation of Nigera AMCON to take over the property of  Duke.Oweibo discharge the order and unfreezed all his accounts sequel to the terms of settlement filed and moved by both AMCON and Duke’s lawyer 

AMCON’s counsel, Juliet Benson told the court that Duke has fulfilled the terms of the settlement and both parties have agreed to the terms, she urged the court to adopt the terms of settlement as the judgement of court.

Counsel to Donald Duke, Edoigiawerie Uyi confirmed that his client has shown good faith and promptly made the payment of over N340 million which parties agreed to.

“I joined my colleagues to urge the court to enter our terms of settlement as full and final judgement of court. 

Justice Oweibo in his short ruling granted the terms of the settlement and entered it as full and final settlement, ordering that all orders in the case stands discharged forthwith.
