CAIRO, Egypt – The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Wednesday night sent a strong signal to the organisers of the ongoing African Cup of Nations, taking place in Egypt when it defeated the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 2 – 1 to cruise into the semi final at AFCON 2019.
It was a beautiful encounter at the 70,000 capacity Cairo International Stadium, when the Nigerian lad highly motivated to go far in the tournament caged the South Africans.
Nigeria went into the lead in the 27 minutes when Samuel Chukwueze found the back of the net scoring from rebond after his goal bound shot was blocked by the keeper.
South Africa pulled one goa back in the 71st minute when Bongazi Zungu beat Nigerian goalkeeper with a header to put the game at par with the Nigerian side.
Nigeria again went into the lead in 89th minutes when William Troost-Ekong found the back of the net with assist from Moses Simon.
Ball possession was 46 -54 percent in favour of South Africa in the 90th minutes.
