Court sends Fashola to prison for sexually assaulting daughters

IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – A Lagos Chief Magistrate court sitting in Ikeja on Friday remanded a 57-year-old father, Mojeeb Fashola in prison custody for alleged sexual assault of his three daughters.

Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat remanded Fashola in Kirikiri Prison pending advice from Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and adjourned the case until October 14, 2019.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, ASP. Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in April between 5.00 p.m and 7.00 p.m. at his residence in Ayetoro, Ijanikin Badagry an outskirts of Lagos. Emuerhi alleged that the defendant sexually assault his daughter, 8, (name withheld) by penetration; “he put his fingers inside her private part”, he said.

He added that the defendant had sometime in April and May also unlawfully assault his two other daughters, ages 10 and 12, (name withheld) respectively by touching their buttock and breast seductively.

The prosecutor said that when the victim’s mother threatened to report the defendant to the police, the defendant physically assault her by beating her and hitting a pestle on her head and hand.

The defendant was apprehended by the police and the case was transferred to the Gender Section at Ikeja Police Command for further investigation.

Emuerhi said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 135, 170 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
