ABUJA, Nigeria – The Coalition of Civil Society Groups (COCSGs) on Monday warned blackmailers who are not comfortable with the reappointment of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to have a rethink. According to the organisation, “the sudden emergence of an audio tape on purported misappropriation of fund was done in bad faith.”

“Nigerians should disregard the antics of these enemies of progress who always believe that they must destroy or discredit credible activities of government once things don’t go their ways”, the organisation advised.

The National President of COCSGs, Etuk Bassey Williams and Secretary, Ibrahim Abubakar, told journalists that the audio came in bad taste.

“The efforts of the CBN governor and his management to see Nigeria thro ugh the recent economic recession is still a testimony that negates every allegation in the tape”, Williams stressed.

He wondered why such tape would be released when President Muhammadu Buhari just affirmed the reappointment of the CBN governor for another tenure.

Williams said, “Nigerians must learn to appreciate good efforts of individuals like Emefiele. Pull-Him-Down syndrome that has become the bane of good work must be jettisoned if the country must move forward. President Buhari has silenced detractors with the tenure extension due his giant strides which is evident in the growth of Nigerian economy.

“We have listened to the audio and can actually state that the conversation has nothing to do with anything fraudulent as purported. Nigerians should disregard the antics of these emenies of progress who always believe that they must destroy or discredit credible activities of government once things don’t go their ways.

“But we want to assure the management of CBN that Nigerians are behind them, and should not be distracted by a few persons who never seek the good of the nation.”
