COLOMBO, Sri Lanka – More revelations have emerged about the circumstances surrounding the multiple bomb blasts that Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday.
Three churches and three international hotels were hit, leaving 321 people dead and over 500 people injured.
Addressing parliament in Sri Lanka, Defence Minister, Ruwan Wijewardene said the attack which has been linked to the National Thawheeth Jama’ath, local hardline Muslim group. The defence minister did not provide evidence of how he came about the information .
“The preliminary investigations have revealed that what happened in Sri Lanka was in retaliation for the attack against Muslims in Christchurch, but we are continuing investigations,” Wijewardene said.
About 50 people were killed in March 15 when a group attacked two mosques at Christchurch in New Zealand during Friday prayers.
Meanwhile mass burial of those killed has been ongoing in Sri Lanka even as state of emergency is in place in some areas.
