#Sri Lanka: 52 dead, 300 injured in bomb attacks on churches on Easter Sunday

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka – Not less than 52 people have been killed and about 300 people injured in multiple bomb blast in Sri Lanka today, Easter Sunday. Six locations were hit, three churches and three hotels were hit by the explosions in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

National Hospital spokesman Dr. Samindi Samarakoon said nearly 300 wounded have been admitted in the main hospital in Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka. A security official who to spoke to NBC news on condition of anonymity at two of the blasts were caused by suicide bombers.

State officials suspect that at least two of the blasts were caused by suicide bombers. According to reports, the first blast ripped through St. Anthony’s Shrine in Colombo. The other two churches are located in Negombo, a Catholic majority town north of Colombo, and the eastern town of Batticaloa.

Alex Agileson, who was in the vicinity, said the buildings in the surrounding area shook with the blast and that a number of injured people were carried in ambulances. A second explosion occured at St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo. On facebook, the church has appealed for help.

Hotels hit are said to be those frequented by foreign tourists. So far nobody has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
