EPE, Lagos, Nigeria – A Lagos Magistrates Court sitting in Epe today sentenced one Yesiru Suleman to three years imprisonment for vandalising a transformer belonging to Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) in Igbolomi, lbeju-Lekki.
The accused who pleaded guilty to the three count charge levelled against him was sentenced to three years jail by Magistrate Adedamola Albert Paul found him guilty of the charges without the option of fine.
He was charged for unlawfully tempering with EKEDC equipments contrary to section 340 of the criminal law of Lagos States, malicious damage of electricity equipments contrary to section 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos States and stealing. General Manager, EKEDC, Godwin Idemudia said the accused was apprehended April 8 with the help of men of the Nigeria Police Force, Akodo, while stealing from a transformer situated at Igbolomi community Ibeju Lekki.
He explained that Suleman had vandalised the transformer and absconded with earthen cables worth One million and ninety-four thousand naira. Magistrate Mr. Adedamola Albert Paul found him guilty and sentenced him to three years imprisonment without the option of fine.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company’s spokesperson stated that the stolen equipment had been recovered by the police.
