LAGOS, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has said it will hold a supplementary election March 9, 2019. March 9 has been scheduled for the governorship and house assembly election.

But INEC said it will hold the supplementary election in places where the presidential and national assembly elections could not hold as a result of violence and other incidents.

INEC came up with the decision after a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners(REC) in Abuja. The electoral umpire said the supplementary election will hold along with the governorship election and house of assembly election.

INEC also indicted members of the security forces for unprofessional conduct during the election. In the statement signed by Festus Okoye, National Commissioneer and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC condemned violence during the election and threats, intimidation, harassement, assault, adoption and rape of officers deployed.

It also condoled with families of those who lost their lives but directed RECs to submit report of the incidents for appropriate action.
