#Nigeria Decides: US, ECOWAS urge Nigerians to support INEC for credible election

ABUJA, Nigeria – The United States of America has called on Nigerians to support the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in its effort to conduct a credible election in Nigeria.

In a statement after postponement of the election, the American consulate said it is in support of statement issued by heads of ECOWAS and other international election observers, encouraging Nigerians to support INEC to conduct a credible election.

The consulate said Nigerians can support INEC’s effort by voting in peace come February 23, 2019 when the Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold.

“The U.S. Embassy fully supports the joint statement by the heads of the ECOWAS and other international election observation missions on the postponement of the February 16 Nigerian elections.

“We join in encouraging all Nigerians to ensure a free, fair, peaceful, and credible election by supporting the Independent National Electoral Commission while it finalizes electoral preparations this week and by voting in peace together on February 23.
