WASHINGTON, United States – The United States of America has advised that Nigerian security forces must provide a safe and security environment for the electorates and the the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) must operate independently free of outside pressure and intimidation in the Feb. 16 Presidential and National Assembly election.

In a statement, Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo said that governments of the United States supports a free, fair, transparent and peaceful election that reflects the will of the Nigerian people.

“It is critical that the Independent National Electoral Commission operates free from outside pressure and intimidation and in a totally objective manner”, he said in a statement, adding those who interfere in the electoral process or incite violence must be held to account.
