Jamal Khashoggi: 5 suspects now to face death penalty

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – At least five people implicated in the murder of Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi will now face death penalty, Saudi prosecutors have said. Saudi Press Agency which made the revelation did not provide the names of the five people facing death penalty.

But as at Thursday, 11 of the suspects implicated in the murder were in court for the first hearing. But Saudi prosecutors said the suspects attended the hearing with their lawyers.

It added that authorities have also requested authorities in Istanbul to furnish it with evidence it collected in relation to the killing of the journalist.

Jamal Khashoggi was killed in October 2, 2018 at the Saudi Arabia consulate in Istanbul when he visited to collect papers that would enable him formalise marriage with his fiance.

Authorities in Turkey have uploaded several evidence indicting the Saudi authority for the murder. The last evidence was video of officials moving black bags into the official residence of the Consul General of the Saudi Arabia in Istanbul where the parts were reportedly dissipated in accid.

Jamal Khashoggi was reported to have been suffocated by nerve gas and his body chopped into pieces before he was evacuated. Till date his body has not been found.

But there has been international pressure against the authority of Saudi Arabia to speak on the whereabout of Jamal Khashoggi’s body.
