ABUJA, Nigeria – Senator representing Kogi West in the Senate, Senator Dino Melaye has said that policemen deployed to his home to effect his arrest have brought in tool boxes to break doors and vandalise his home.
The senator who has been in hiding since policemen where deployed to arrest him made the disclosure on the social media.
“Police bringing in tool boxes to break doors and vandalize my house. Police EOD truck just brought them. Media take note”, he said. Recall that the senator had earlier in December said he has been told of a plot by the Nigeria Police to arrest and poison him for a case that has been investigated and closed.
But the police denied the claim, and called on him to come out and confess if he has committed any crime. The police described Dino’s allegation as hate speech aimed at putting the force into disrepute before members of the public.
A statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Acting DCP Jimoh Moshood said, “There is no such order from the Inspector General of Police or any plan by the Force to arrest Senator Dino Melaye and inject him to death, but if the Senator knows he had committed any crime or he is aware of his involvement in any crime, he should come out and confess and face the legal consequences instead of whipping up sentiments to distract the public”, the police said.
Not long after his denial, the police as he predicted deployed to his home to effect his arrest.
In a statement dated 30th, December, 2018, the police said the senator is wanted by the Police for a case of Criminal Conspiracy and Attempted Culpable Homicide, committed on 19th July, 2018, when Senator Dino Melaye and his armed thugs attacked Police personnel; shot and wounded Sgt. Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) on stop and search duty along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State.
“The Police operatives with a duly obtained Warrant of Arrest deployed to arrest Senator Dino Melaye in his residence in Abuja will not retreat until Senator Dino Melaye surrenders himself for arrest and investigation”, the police said, adding that it is on record that the Police investigators submitted a Letter of Invitation dated 23rd July, 2018, signed by the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command addressed to the Clerk, National Assembly, Abuja, inviting Senator Dino Melaye to report on 26th July, 2018 at 1100Hrs at the Kogi State Police Command, CIID, Lokoja to answer to a case of Criminal Conspiracy and Attempted Culpable Homicide against him under investigation in the Kogi State Police Command.
“The Police Officer, Sgt. Danjuma Saliu, is yet to recover from the gunshot injury he sustained during the attack and still under intensive medical care in the hospital”, the police said in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Jimoh Moshood.
