Charly Boy in the Video Waka, Pack and Go

LAGOS, Nigeria – Charly Boy, known in the social circles as King of Punk is a rare musician. He can be very humble and soft spoken if he wants to and radical too but he seems to have carved a niche for himself as one musician that has succeeded in keeping his home intact, thanks to Lady Dianne, whom the musician married again after so many years of marital bliss.

Charly Boy can be weird – he has portrayed himself nude in some pictures, at some times inside casket, with jabs all over, nose rings and with very intimidating talons. Charly Boy who early this year floated an NGO “Our Mumu Don Do” to spotlight some of the societal ills that Nigerians have become too scared to speak about especially with the disappearance of the civil societies, including the very vociferous Professor Wole Soyinka, following the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari took his social agitations to a level never imagined of a musician after the demise of Afrobeat King, Fela Anikulapo Kuti with the release of WAKA, Pack & Go. Our gentle and very humble musical icon, 2Face tried to embark on social crusade to campaign about bag government but chickened out, when Buhari’s men bared their fangs.

WAKA! is a social commentary, rosing the political consciousness of Nigeria, with direct messages for the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), with a definitive chorus, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to Pack and Go.

His reasons are not far fetched. For him, Buhari has lived beyond expectations, with many of his electoral promises unfulfilled. He said his economic and political policies have left Nigerians dying, with hunger bitting harder. He explained that Nigerians are now suffering. With beautiful and very inspiring lyrics, the musician alluded to the Minister for Information and National Orientation, Lai Muhammad, describing him as lie, lie, Police de fire fire, from Sai Baba to Shame Baba. He said that they have scattered Nigeria, corruption is on the rise, with poverty strangulating. He also alluded to policemen and soldiers opening fire on defenceless Nigerians, leaving him with no option but to open the gate for Buhari to pack and go.

He said “Our mumu don do, our eyes don shine, dis your change, want to kill us again and again, so WAKA, pack and go. Besides, he argued that there is is no light and that with APC, PDP, people are suffer while “politicians de hammer, from sai Baba to Shame Baba. We don tire for this your change ooo pack and go. Lie lie government, wuruwuru government, pack and go”, he said.

Through WAKA, the musician noted that hunger has become weapon of mass destruction. They want to kill us, God pass them, they want to enslave us, it is time to say it, so many promies, it empty promises, plenty injustices, no certificate, they find money, keep the money, you join their party, you become their paddy, them dey fight corruption, na dem corrupt oo”, he said.

Such a beautiful lyrics, sweet melody with unbeatable graphics and it seems to be the best musical commentary from a musician in the league of the late Fela in recent times.
