BENUE, Nigeria – The immediate past Minister of Interior and Benue South Senatorial candidate on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2019 general elections, Comrade Patrick Abba Moro, has decried the recent communal clash in Apa Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.

The communal conflict which was between Okwiji clan in Edikwu district and Ugbobi community in Apa LGA, reportedly led to the killing of some persons and the burning down of houses. Speaking on the incident on Tuesday in Abuja, Comrade Moro described it as unfortunate and uncalled-for.

The ex-Minister noted that the Idomas ought to love one another and live together peacefully, maintaining that for no reason should they allow anything whatsoever to cause violent conflict among them.  He appealed for calm, stressing that the communities should embrace the locally established Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to resolve their differences amicably, rather than resorting to violence.

“I’m saddened by the development. We shouldn’t be seen killing ourselves. We are a family, we can’t afford to hurt one another, considering the blood relationship that exists between us. I plead with my brothers to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign. Let us live together in absolute peace and amity,” Moro remarked.

The communities are said to be fighting over a disputed piece of land suspected to have oil deposit. The Benue State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ene Okon had said security has been beefed up in the affected areas to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
