19 YEAR OLD CULTIST REMANDED FOR MURDER

MAKURDI, Nigeria – A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court, on Friday remand a 19-year old student, Godwin Ameh, accused of allegedly killing one Ochoche Iduh, pending legal advice from the Office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Magistrate Regina Ochokwunu, who gave the order, adjourned the case until Dec 18 for mention. The police accused Ameh, who resides at Ukpa Street, Ojira Road, Otukpo, of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearm, being a member of unlawful society and culpable homicide.




Earlier, the prosecutor, Sg.t Abdulkarim Abubakar told the court that the case was transferred from Otukpo Divisional Police Headquarter to the state CIID, Makurdi on Oct 30, 2018 via a letter dated Oct 30, 2018.

Abubakar said Mr Samuel Amos, the head of a vigilante group at Beloved Avenue, Otukpo, reported the case at the Otukpo Police Station on Oct 26.

“Amos told the police that the accused was a notorious member of a cult known as ‘Black Axe’ and his gang armed themselves with a locally made pistol and other dangerous weapons, shot and killed Iduh.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 222 of the penal code Law of Benue, 2004, Sections 11(2) of the Abduction, Hostage taking, kidnapping, Secret cult and other similar activities prohibition Law of Benue, 2017 and Section 6(b)(2) of the Robbery and Firearm Act. The plea of the accused was not taken.
