DELTA, Nigeria – There are difficult days ahead for President Muhammadu Buhari, following the decision of the Academic Staff Union of University(ASUU) to embark on indefinite strike just ahead of workers’ strike scheduled to take off on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

Labour is embarking on the strike to press home demand for N30,000 minimum wage. The Nigerian Government at the federal level is proposing N24,000 per month but the states are saying they will only be able to pay N22,500 as minimum wage leading to stand-off.

But just ahead of general labour strike, ASUU ordered its members across the country to commence an indefinite industrial action. This followed a meeting of ASUU leaders   at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, the Ondo State capital.

ASUU, national president, Professor Abiodun Ogunyemi, told reporters that the union took the decision due to the poor funding of universities in the country.

“I have directed all members of the union across various universities to withdraw their services, stressing that the strike would be total and indefinite”, he said.
