PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Hon. Boma Iyaye has congratulated the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, GSSRS, POS, after he bagged the ‘Sports Governor of the Year Award’ at the prestigious at the 2018 Nigeria Sports Awards. Gov Wike emerged victorious in the category that also included the Executive Governors of Lagos (Akinwumi Ambode) and Delta (Ifeanyi Okowa) States at the ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of the Eko Hotels on Friday, November 16, 2018.




Speaking shortly after the ceremony, Hon. Iyaye, who received the award on behalf of Gov. Wike, showered encomiums on the Chief Executive of Rivers State whom he described as credit to Sport in Nigeria.

“Governor Wike has shown tremendous love and support for sport, not just in Rivers State but in Nigeria as a whole so this latest accolade by organizers of the Nigeria Sports Awards is totally deserved,” Hon Iyaye said.

“Since the inception of Gov Wike’s administration, sport has received a new lease of life in Rivers State as exemplified by the consistent levels of excellence displayed by our sports men, women and teams across the Globe.

“The Power of Sports (POS) award he received in Brussels, Belgium recently following his nomination by the International Sports Press Association-Africa (AIPS) Africa also shows that Gov. Wike is a major force in sport at the world stage and a big credit to Sport in Nigeria.

“I want to, on behalf of all sports men, women and the good people of Rivers State, congratulate our dear Governor for this latest accolade and we believe that he will not relent in his drive in making Rivers State a haven of sport in the country,” Hon Iyaye concluded.
