JAKARTA, Indonesia – At least 30 professional divers are now combing the sea near Java after an Indonesian airline, Lion Air crashed into the sea. The plane, a Boeing 737 took off with 188 passengers from the Jakarta Soekano Hatta International Airport at 6:20 am.
The plane, Flight JT 610 was due to arrive Pangkal Pinang at 07:20 GMT but reports suggest that the pilot got in touch with the control tower seeking permission to make a turn around. Authority in Jakarta said permission was granted but that Flight JT610 disappeared from the radar 10 minutes later.
So far, there is no survivor but human remains are said to have been discovered by divers combing the sea in some of the wreckage.
“The plane crashed into water about 30m to 40m deep,” Search and Rescue Agency spokesman Yusuf Latif told AFP news agency. “We’re still searching for the remains of the plane. We don’t know yet whether there are any survivors…We hope, we pray, but we cannot confirm,” the agency’s head, Muhmmad Syaugi, told reporters.

Items like ID cards and driver’s licences are also said to have been discovered. In a statement, Chief Executive Officer, Lion Air, Edward Sirait described the pilot as very professional and that the plane was airworthy when it took off adding that the pilot had 7 to 8 years of flying experience.
