LAGOS, Nigeria – It was another day of mourning in Lagos when a petrol tanker laden with fuel exploded on the Lagos -Badagry Expressway. The explosion which occurred at Barracks bustop threw the area into confusion, leaving many vehicles burnt beyond recognition.
Not less than 7 vehicles were consumed in the inferno. It is not clear how many lost their lives, but eye witnesses told our correspondent that lives were lost. This tanker explosion is taking place few months after a tanker exploded near Sir Michael Otedola Estate along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway killing dozens of people with at least 58 vehicles burnt.
Till date the Lagos State Government has not been able to come up with a policy to curtail incidents of fire in Lagos. However, the Babatunde Fashola government however laid down a policy that tankers and trucks can only enter Lagos State between 9pm and 5am.
But the policy has not been implemented by the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s government.
