ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Assembly has adjourned sitting indefinitely and would reconvene after Eid el Kabir festival. The lawmakers were to sit today to consider request for virement by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC). The presidency had requested the NASS to reconvene from recess to reconsider INEC’s request for virement.

But in a joint press statement, President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara said no date has been fixed for the reconvening of the National Assembly to consider the request for virement.

In a statement signed by their media aides, the leadership agreed to meet with the joint committees on Electoral Matters and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

They will also meet with the joint Committees on Appropriations, Loans and Debts on the Eurobond loan request after which two reports would be presented to the two chambers.

They explained that since the meeting is yet to hold it would be unnecessary to recall the lawmakers from recess especially those that may have travelled to Saudi Arabia for Hajj.
