PORT HARCOURT, Rivers, Nigeria – President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has held a private meeting with the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, at government house, Port Harcourt. Saraki who is in the state to participate in the foundation laying ceremony of the Train 2 of the Indorama Fertilizer Plant, Eleme, is also billed to commission the Obire-Ikwerre-Airport Road, as part of activities to mark Governor Wike’s 3rd anniversary in office.

Commissioner for Information and Communications, Emma Okah, said the event will hold at about 7.pm, on Saturday. He also urged the people of Rivers State to show up during the commissioning to give the Senate president a rousing welcome.

Although, government house officials said the private meeting between Wike and his host, Saraki, had no political colouration, inside sources within the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the state hinted that the ” who will emerge as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections was very much on the table.”

The Senate president was on Friday, cleared of all criminal charges in his assets declaration matter by the Supreme Court. The Judgment, according to the source, has removed the major hurdle militating against Saraki’s quest to vie for the presidency in 2019.

Former members of the new People’s Democratic Party( nPDP) which coalesced to former the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2014, last week, moved out of the APC to form the Reformed-All Progressives Congress( R-APC). Most of those who formed the R-APC are members of the National Assembly, fiercely loyal to the Senate President.
