MAKURDI, Benue, Nigeria – Eight lawmakers in the Benue House of Assembly have served impeachment notice on Governor Samuel Ortom. They served the notice following decision of the governor to dump the All Progressive Congress(APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).Reacting to the development, Spokesperson of PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan said only 8 lawmakers lacked the constitutional powers to remove him from office.
“8 assembly members out of 30 to impeach Governor Ortom as against…What better way can one define tyranny?”, he said.
The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), called on lovers of democracy to rise up against the development, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari should be held responsible for any breakdown in law and order. The party said Buhari has failed and that nothing will stop the people from removing him come 2019.
“We call on all lovers of Democracy to rise against this unconstitutional act. Nigerians will hold @MBuhari responsible 4any breakdown of law &order resulting from this act of brigandage. D @MBuhari administration has failed ¬hing will stop d people from removing him in 2019.
In his reaction, Reno Omokri, aide to the former President Goodluck Jonathan said, “How can 8 Legislators suspend 15 Legislators then serve impeachment notice on Gov Ortom?
“How can the minority suspend or impeach the majority? That‘s the government magic that Buhari has introduced into Nigeria. They don’t have magic to improve, only to destroy what others built!”, he said.
