MINNA, Niger, Nigeria – Former military junta and ex-head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida has commended the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari for declaring June 12 as democracy day, just as he has recommended a two party structure for Nigeria.
Babangida made the commendation in a statement on tweeter, where-in he declared that June 12 should inded be our Democracy Day, and that it was the day that the feest and fiarest election was held and that he is happy that the election was conducted by him.
He said that Nigeria has been polarised for 18 years and recommends a two party system for Nigeria.Ironically, it was IBB who annulled the June 12, 1993 election, believed to have been won by Chief MKO Abiola.
“June 12 should indeed be our Democracy Day because it is very symbolic to our history; that was when we had the freest and fairest election and I am really happy the election was conducted by me.
“Democracy in Nigeria has been polarized in the last 18 years; I therefore want the nation to consider adopting a two-party structure as a way to solving many of its challenges”, he said.
Recall that IBB conducted the June 12, 1993 election under a two party system, National Republican Convention, NRC and Social Democratic Party, SDP. Abiola won the election on the platform of SDP with Ambassador Babagana Kingibe as running mate.
The man Babagida should bury and entomb his head and conscience in shame and sleep off. Power and opportunities are not partial, it’s the test and assessment of transient time. Remember Babagida, you are a major great contributor of the woes and distress that this nation, Nigeria is facing today.
You have nothing to say on June 12.
