IKOYI, Lagos, Nigeria – Senator representing Delta-North, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi was today remanded in Ikoyi prison for alleged fraud to the tune of N1.127 billion by a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi. The presiding Judge, Justice Mohammed Idris gave the order after listening to application for bail from both counsels while fixing Friday this week to rule on the bail.
Senator Nwaoboshi was arraigned alongside his two companies -Golden Touch Construction Projects Ltd, and Summing Electricals Ltd, before the court by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on two counts charge.
According to EFCC prosecutor, Mr. Salisu Abubakar, the senator purchased Guinea House, Marine Road, Apapa, at the sum of N800 million and N5 million knowing that N322 million out of the sum is from proceeds of fraud. The Senator however pleaded not guilty to the two count charge.
His counsel, Dr. Azingwe urged the court to grant him bail on self recognition. EFCC alleged that the Senator committed the offence sometimes in the year 2014.
