IKEJA, Lagos – A magistrate court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos today sentenced a 22- year -old Elijah Ogunyemi and 20-year-old Wasiu Saliu to 5 years imprisonment for stealing one Infinix phone and cash of N150,000 belonging to Benson Eniper.
The prosecutor, Mr Benson Emeurhi said that the offence was committed on the 11th of April 2018 at Ketu. He also said the items stolen are one infinix phone and #150,000 cash owned by Benson Eniper, contrary to section 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state 2015.The accused however pleaded guilty to the charge.
Wasiu said that his parents are late and that he lives with his grandmother.He explained to the police why he went into stealing:
“My grandmother was sick and needed some money to get some drugs but since I wasn’t having any, I went to Elijah to help me out. Elijah suggested that we stole and I agreed because I needed the money badly.” He also said that they armed themselves with knifes and after they robbed their victim, they had not escaped far when they were caught by the OPC who later handed them to the police.
The magistrate, Mrs Sule Amzat, thereby senteced the defendants to five years imprisonment with no option of fine.
