ILORIN, Nigeria – The Kwara state Governor, Dr Abdul Fattah Ahmed has vowed to support the International Press Institute,IPI world Congress Nigeria 2018 coming up later in the year. The governor who made the announcement while welcoming the IPI world Congress Nigeria 2018 local organising committee on advocacy visit to Kwara state , the governor said he would sponsored Journalists from the state to the IPI world Congress in Abuja in June. He used the opportunity to impress on the Nigerian media to use the world assemblage of Journalists in Abuja to promote positive developments in the country .
According to him” the IPI world Congress should be used to showcase the best of Nigeria and its uniqueness as a united and vibrant country despite its challenges”. Governor Ahmed stated that he believed in Free press towards ensuring adequate information dissemination to the people within and outside the country.
Earlier,the leader of IPI world Congress Nigeria 2018, Dr Tony Iredia Chairman publicity committee had sought the support of the Kwara state government for Nigerian Journalists to attend the world Congress in abuja which will featured among others, trainings and interactions with media experts across the globe.
Dr Iredia reminded the government and people of Nigeria on the unique role of the media as espoused in the constitution to make government accountable to the people, hence he noted the essence of free press .
To Dr Iredia, the IPI world Congress in Abuja is a bold opportunity to change the narrative of the media for development. The delegation to Kwara state include the President NUJ comrade Waheed Odusile, Dr Qasim Akinreti chairman NUJ Lagos state Council and Secretary Transport and Logistics, for IPI world Congress in Nigeria, Secretary IPI Nigeria, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin, Victoria Ibanga, Secretary, Nigerian Guild of Editors ,The Editor The Herald Newspaper and Mr Femi Ajayi, an online media publisher and Secretary publicity committee for IPI world Congress in Nigeria.
The advocacy visits in Kwara state has taken the local organising committee of IPI world Congress Nigeria to National Pilot Newspaper, Radio Kwara, NTA Ilorin and the NUJ Kwara state council office where a special Congress was held.
