OJODU, Lagos – Youths of Ojodu-Abiodun are currently on rampage. They are angry that policemen from Adigboluja Police Station, situated along Ojodu-Abiodun on the way to Denro have shot and inflicted deadly injuries on their colleagues where they were playing football at Yakoyo, a community bordering Lagos and Ogun State.
Armed with sticks, stones and broken bottles the boys in their hundreds barricaded the road, invaded the police station and chased out all the officers on duty.
They also vandalised the one storey building, shattering all the glass windows and vehicles parked in and around the police station. They also looted items including generators, television sets and any valuable they could lay their hands on in the police station including money.
They brought out the money they found inside the station and threw them into the sky for the local boys who were hailing all their incursion to grab. It was survival of the of the fittest as all around struggle to grab a piece of the flying Naira.
When our correspondent arrived the scene on Sunday afternoon, he saw the boys numbering into hundred storming in and out of the police station with generators and television sets. Our correspondent counted at least 5 vehicles vandalised by the angry youths, most of them half naked.
The policemen later regrouped away from the police station on the sideline on the way to Denro heavily armed and ready to shoot even as the angry mob continued to dare them with stones and clubs.
One of the angry mobs who spoke to our correspondent said the policemen shot Dada at Yakoko where he and his colleagues where playing football at a playground in Yakoyo.
“They shot him three times from the back where we were playing football this morning and as I am speaking to you, the boy is battling for his dear life at Tomade Hospital”, one of the boys said.
The DCO who spoke to our correspondent said he has called for reinforcement from Lagos.
As at the time of filing this story, policemen from the Special Anti-robbery Squad, FSARS and policemen in plane uniform have invaded the area ready to take on the angry mob. So far calm is beginning to return to Ojodu due to heavy presence of policemen.
