PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – Rivers United have unveiled new players that will represent the football club in the 2018 football season. The unveiling ceremony took place today January 13 at the club’s home ground, the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Apart from the new players, chief coach, Ndubuisi Nduka was also unveiled on Saturday. Prince Aggrey, who was among the footballers unveiled expressed readiness to give his all to the ‘Pride of Rivers’ in the upcoming campaign.
“I will wear the number ten jersey and I understand the responsibility that comes with that,” he told our official website, www.riversunitedfc.com.ng. I think my contribution will act as a big plus to the team.
“Most of the new players that have joined the club are good players; quality players and I believe we will contribute in making this club the best in Nigeria,” Aggrey stated.
Also speaking after the unveiling ceremony, attacking midfielder, Ochowechi ‘Oche’ Salefu noted that he will look to replicate his displays from last season when he donned the strips Remo Stars, this term, at United.
“I want to do even better than what I did for Remo Stars here at Rivers United,” Salefu stated.
On his part, General Manager of Rivers United FC, Chief Okey Kpalukwu explained that it was imperative for the supporters and fans of the club to have a ‘proper glimpse of their new stars’ before the 2018 NPFL season officially kicks off.
“We want to make this a tradition as our objective remains becoming the foremost football club in Nigeria. It is very important that everyone involved with our football club gets a proper glimpse of their new stars before our first game of the season against El Kanemi Warriors on Sunday.
“We want to do well in the 2018 season and everyone at the club, in all departments, is seriously going about their business to see that set objectives are met at the end of the season,” he stated.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by the club’s technical manager, Stanley Eguma, co-ordinator general, Bashiru Badawiy, supporters club chairman, Comrade Franklin Owhor as well as supporters and fans. Rivers United will open her 2018 Nigeria Professional Football League campaign on Sunday, January 14 against El Kanemi Warriors at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
