LAUSANNE, Switzerland – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has readmitted the suspended Brazilian Olympic Committee into its fold to exercise its membership rights in the NOC , the IOC has said.

“This specific measure has been lifted today by the IOC EB. The decision will enable the COB to participate, in particular, in the ANOC and PASO meetings this week in Prague”, the IOC said. It added that all other measures decided by the IOC EB on 6 October 2017 as part of the provisional suspension remain in place.

In particular, the COB convene an Extraordinary General Assembly on 11 October 2017, during which the following decisions/resolutions were taken:

“To acknowledge and confirm the formal and definitive resignation of Mr Carlos Nuzman from his position as COB President and any other position within the COB; to confirm Vice-President Paulo Wanderley Teixeira as the new COB President for the remainder of the term; and to review and revise the COB statutes and governance within a short timeframe; proceed with a specific review of the internal situation and accounts of the COB for the period 2008 to 2010, to make sure that the COB, as a legal entity, was not involved in any manner whatsoever in any of the allegations/charges against Mr Nuzman in the framework of the ongoing investigation by the Federal Public Prosecutor in Brazil.

In this regard, the COB – together with an independent auditor – has already conducted a preliminary investigation which confirms that the COB accounts were properly audited and approved by the COB General Assembly and that, at this stage, no element has been found in relation to the ongoing case of Mr Nuzman.

In addition, the COB decided to undertake a complete review of the audits conducted during this period, and needs some time to finalise this work together with the auditor. “There will be no decision about the final lifting of the provisional suspension of the COB by the IOC until this process is finished”, the IOC said.
