IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – The Acting Chief Judge of Lagos, Justice Opeyemi Oke has shifted the 2017/2018 Legal Year forward by more than one week beginning October 9.
It was formerly scheduled to begin September 25 by retired Chief Judge, Justice Olufunmilayo Atilade. But the new Chief Judge who is resuming belatedly today had to shift the date since she is just settling down.
The former judge overstayed by almost one month after retirement, using the period to carry out renovations within the court, a development that prolonged the period the new CJ was to assume office as Acting Chief Judge since the outgoing delayed the process.
This strange development forced the National Judicial Council, NJC to summon both of them to Abuja and in the process delaying the swearing in ceremony of the new CJ to 5PM.
