The former judge overstayed by almost one month after retirement, using the period to carry out renovations within the court, a development that prolonged the period the new CJ was to assume office as Acting Chief Judge since the outgoing delayed the process.

This strange development forced the National Judicial Council, NJC to summon both of them to Abuja and in the process delaying the swearing in ceremony of the new CJ to 5PM.
