LAGOS, Nigeria – The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has said it is rolling out digitization programme that will fully automate all critical areas of operation in the Nigerian oil and gas sector.

In a statement, Head Public Affairs Unit, Mr. Paul Osu said the programme will enhance efficiency of all regulatory deliverables and accelerate recovery of outstanding revenue due to government.

He said the programme will improve regulatory service delivery of all stakeholders, promote transparency in monitoring of the oil and gas sector and ease the doing of business in the oil and gas sector in line with Executive Order 001 and upgrade DPR’s operational standard to world class level.

He explained that the automations which are currently in the works include IMPEX ( Import and Export)permit digitization, which he said will automate issuance of import and export permit of petroleum products.

Others are FIPAS, Fiscal Payment Administrative System, designed to enhance the collection of government revenues like royalty, concession rentals and flare penalty. “It will ensure timely, transparent e-billing of companies thereby enhancing government revenue profile”, he noted.

Recall that in 2014, DPR automated the process of issuing Oil and Gas Industry Service Permit(OGISP), a statutory requirement issued to registered companies in Nigeria seeking to offer services in oil and gas sector. OGISP is categorized into General, Major and Specialised category.

It was followed by the launch of NPMS, National Production Monitoring System, designed to receive in real time oil and gas production data from the fields and enhance transparency of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry in alignment with government’s regulations.

The DPR assured stakeholders that it will continue to strive for excellence with integrity in the discharge of its regulatory oversight function in the Nigerian oil and gas sector.
