IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – Chairmanship candidate of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Lagos, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi has congratulated Mr. Qasim Akinreti, an Assistant Director in Voice of Nigeria(VON) for winning the keenly contested election that dragged into the night. Akinreti secured 288 votes to defeat Ajayi who scored 272 votes.
In his congratulatory message, Adeleye Ajayi said it was a collective victory, adding that he accepts his defeat in the spirit of sportsmanship.
“I Congratulate my brother, my bosom friend of over two decades, Dr. Qasim Akinreti on his victory. I have extended my personal Congratulatory Messages last night and this morning to my New Chairman.
“I also congratulate other members of the Exco. It was a Collective Victory and accepted by me in the spirit of Sportsmanship. I have put the election behind me. We are One Big United Family. Let us move the Union forward.
“I come out of my Political Shell once in a blue moon. Dear Colleagues and Snr. Colleagues I have gone back into my Political Shell. Is all about the struggle for the advancement of the NUJ. I wish the New Exco a Successful tenure of office. Long Live the NUJ”, he said.
