ABUJA, Nigeria – King of Punk, Charles Oputa alias Charlie Boy has told starconnectmedia that it is laughable for any group to suggest that he was sponsored to embark on the protest calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to resume or resign.
President Muhammadu Buhari has been on sick leave in London for more than 90 days, promoting Charlie Boy and his group to embark on protest at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, Nigeria.
They started well but today, the number of those in the protest has reduced to about 11. Beyond that, the group was at the receiving end of official assault when the Nigeria Police Force decended heavily on them, hitting them with teargas.
Charlie Boy slumped in the process and was physically abused, leaving him with a black eye. A pro-Buhari group also emerged, saying the President should not resign and that he has not committed any constitutional infraction to warrant resignation.
But amidst all these, Charlie Biy has vowed to continue with the protest. But at the weekend, a Coalition for Truth and Justice alleged that former governor of Ondo State, Chief Olusegun Mimiko and Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwanbo and others are behind the ongoing protest by the King of Punk.
The group alleged that the governor, Mimiko and others have supported the anti-Buhari protest to the tune of N300 million and that the group should be put under security watch.
We reached out to Charlie Boy and his reply was simlple: “I laff, that’s why na only 10 people you de see for our rally abi”, he said via short text messages.
