LAGOS, Nigeria – Forbes Africa has released list of richest African musician with Akon as number one in Africa, while Michael Collins Ajereh better known as Don Jazzy remains number one in Nigeria but 4th in Africa.
Other Nigerian musicians that made the list are Whizkid, DavidO and Jidenna.
According to Forbes, the richest African musician is Akon. He has sold 35million albums worldwide. He has been nominated for 5 granmys with 45 billboard 100 somgs. He is followed by South Africa’s Nkosinathi Mapumulo better known as Black Cofee.
The legendary musician, Hugh Masekela is number 3. He has released more than 43 albums and performed with Marvin Gaye, Dizzy Gillespie, The Byrds, Fela Kuti, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and Miriam Makeba.
Nigeria’s Don Jazzy is ranked Nos 4 in Africa. He is reported to have started playing music as a child in church before moving to the UK to pursue his career.
At Nos 5 is Tinashe, a Zimbabwean-American. She made her first appearance in 2000 in the film Cora Unashamed and also fearured in The Polar Express alongside Oscar-winning actor, Tom Hanks.
Nigeria’s Jidenna Theodore Mobisson is ranked nunber 6 in Africa. He is followed by another Nigerian Wizkid in the 7th place. He has won several awards in Nigeria.
DavidO also a Nigerian musician is ranked number 8. A top rated musician, he became famous shortly after his debut album, “Omo Baba Olowo”.
Michael Owusu Addo, better known as Sarkodie is ranked number 9. His fourth album, Mewu, sold almost 4,000 copies on the first day of its release in Ghana. He was also the first Ghanaian to win a BET award. Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi from Zimbabwe is ranked number 10. He has released over 65 albums.
