YENEGOA, Nigeria – Bayelsa State Governor Henry. Seriake Dickson, has expressed his administration’s commitment to partner with the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), to explore areas of mutual benefits.

The governor, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said Dickson stated this when he received the President and Chairman of the Council of CIBN, Prof. Segun Ajibola and other members in his office at Government House, Yenagoa.

While describing CIBN as strategic to the management of the national economy, he said the government was desirous of collaborating with the organisation, with a view to showcasing the potentials of the State, particularly in the area of power generation, as Bayelsa is endowed with crude oil and gas.

Dickson commended CIBN for their various programmes and other initiatives aimed at capacity building in the financial sector, and lauded the organisation for its decision to establish their presence in the state.

He said the Bayelsa State Chief Economic Adviser, Mr Duate Iyabi, would liaise with members of CIBN on ways to improve the public financial systems, as well as create opportunities that would be beneficial to both parties.

Earlier in his remarks, Prof. Ajibola intimated Dickson of the plans of CIBN to establish a secretariat as well as an examination centre of the body in Bayelsa.

According to him, the examination centre, when operational will enable indigenes of the state and neighbouring states to write the institute’s examinations.

Ajibola also noted that, the institute has been mandated to host the 22nd edition of the World Conference of Banking Institutes in the country this year, which would serve as a launching pad to exhibit Bayelsa and the rest of the country’s investment opportunities and tourist attractions.

He said it is the first time the country would be hosting such a conference and solicited the state government’s assistance in that direction.
