YENEGOA, Bayelsa, Nigeria – Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Ekpo Nta has commended the government of Bayelsa State for its anti-corruption campaign which has made the state maintain an enviable record as one of the least states in the country with corruption cases.
According to him, the commitment of the present administration to fight corruption in the state is very commendable and urged Governor Seriake Dickson not to relent as his brave efforts will continue to produce good results.
Speaking at a summit and flag off of an anti-corruption campaign in Yenagoa on Thursday, the ICPC chairman said as a commission they are aware of the robust measures put in place by the government which has clearly checkmated sharp practices in the various MDAs.
”I am very happy with what I have seen and heard. Bayelsa State is the first to apply to have the ICPC in their state and this underscores the importance the government attach to the issue of fighting corruption”.
Nta congratulated Governor Dickson for his numerous transperency programmes and promised to send a template of ICPC’s verification forms to assist the task of the various teams instituted by the government to fight corruption.
Governor Dickson had in his remark appreciated the ICPC for the great job it is doing to reduce corruption in the country and expressed the willingness of his government to partner with the commission to give more bite to its anti-corruption campaign in Bayelsa State.
The governor explained that different committees were set up and are working hard to rid the state public service of various forms of corruption like ghost names, payroll fraud, amongst others and assured that his administration will continue to be accountable to the people as part of its cardinal objective.
Earlier Speaker of the State Assembly, Konbowei Benson said the Trasperency Law initiated by the government has brought about a huge public trust as Bayelsans month after month religiously follow the state’s income and expenditure.
On her part, the State Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri noted that like never before the judiciary is truly independent which has made it effectively carry out their duties without any interference and also lauded the governor for providing modern electronic gadets to record court proceedings which has further made the adjudication of cases less cumbersome.
