MELBOURNE, Australia – Lawn Tennis superstar, Serena Williams today won her 23rd grand slam single crown at the Australian open. She defeated her older sister, Venus Williams to emerge champion.

She defeated Venus Williams 6-4 6-4 Saturday night at Rod Laver Arena. The victory has now placed her in the top position as world No.1, dethroning Angelique Kerber.

By this feat, Serena has now won 23 of 29 major singles finals.

However, even in defeat, she has continued to give glory to her sister for inspiring her into the game.
“This was a tough one. I just kept praying and I’m here. She’s an amazing person. There’s no way I’d be at 23 without her. There’s no way I would be at (number) one without her, there’s no way I’d have anything without her.

“She’s my inspiration, she’s the only reason I’m standing here today and the only reason the Williams sisters exist.
“Thank you Venus for inspiring me to be the best player that I could be and inspiring me to work hard – every time you won this week, I thought ‘I’ve got to win too’,” she said of Serena Williams.
