ABUJA, Nigeria – President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly, notifying it of his intention to proceed on a 10-day medical leave.

This is the third time that Buhari is proceeding on leave in less than two years. In February 2016, Buhari took his first vacation since assuming office as‎ president. He wrote again to the Senate seeking to go on a short medical vacation from 6th-16th of June, 2016.

In a letter addressed to President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, Buhari said his request is in line with Section 145 (1) of Nigera’s 1999 Constitution as amended.

“In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 constitution as amended, I wish to inform the distinguished Senate that I will be away on a short medical vacation from Monday January, 23 to February 6th, 2017 and while I am away, the Vice President (Osinbajo) will perform the functions of my office. Please, accept, as always assurances of my highest esteemed consideration.
