LAGOS, Nigeria – At one person has been confirmed dead and three other injured when a Lexus EX 350 SUV today crashed into a stationery truck in Ikeja, along the ever busy, Lagos/Abeokuta Express Way.
Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) at the scene of the accident said the truck was fully loaded with metallic scraps and breakdown at Mangoro bus stop, Lagos- Abeokuta Expressway inward Ikeja.
“Preliminary report by the ERT at the scene of the incident revealed that a Lexus EX 350 Saloon Car with registration number APP 544 EH ran into the stationary truck, loaded with scraps metallic objects at the said location resulting to death of a middle aged young man, while three other persons in the car sustained multiple injury”, a LASEMA official said.
LASEMA identified the dead victim as Lere nicked named as (swagger) and that he was extricated by the Agency’s Emergency Response Team with the use of light duty equipment from the trapped car and was later taken away by the family members who rushed down to the scene.
“The injured victims were also immediately taken by LASAMBUS to Gbagada General Hospital for necessary medical attention, The affected trucks were thereafter remove after a rigorous operation with the help of the LASEMA Response Unit heavy duty Super Metro, Crane and Fork “, he said and that the vehicles have been handed over to men of the Nigerian Police, Shasha division for further investigation.
Speaking on the incident, General Manager LASEMA Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu advised car owners and drivers especially articulated trucks drivers to always ensure that safety signs are place at strategic locations each time their vehicles breakdown to avoid loss of lives and man hours associated with accident.
He said proper investigations would be conducted by security operatives to avert future occurrences.
