The Lagos State Government is to begin the installation of meters to regulate water supply in the state.

Managing Director of the Lagos State Water Corporation, LWC, Mr. Muminu Adekunle-Badmus who made this known at the Corporation’s headquarters in Ijora to mark the end of the year said the installation would begin in February next year.




The Lagos Water Corporation Boss listed the pilot areas where the metering system would take off to include Surulere, Yaba, Ebute Meta,Itire, Iwaya, Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki Phase One.

Adekunle-Badmus who is an engineer informed that about sixteen thousand meters would be installed in the first instance to put to rest the controversy over the volume of water supply to each household and also curb wastage.

Listing the challenges confronting the water corporation to include indiscriminate cutting of water pipes, inadequate electricity supply from the national grid and shortage of gas due to pipeline vandalism in the Niger-Delta area, Mr. Adekunle-Badmus explained that the State Government had resorted to using diesel powered generator to pump water in order to meet the growing demands of residents.




On the capital projects to be embarked upon in the New Year, Mr Adekunle-Badmus stated that Adiyan Phase 2, water works would be completed in the first quarter of the year, while the Corporation would collaborate with the Ministry of Physical planning and Urban Development to ensure that water mains are installed in all new housing schemes within the State to realize the vision of supplying potable water to every household.

The Lagos State water Corporation boss who identified public private partnership as the most viable means of bridging the huge gap between demand and supply also appealed to resident to pay their water bills as and when due.
