YENEGOA, Nigeria – The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Daniel Iworiso Markson has applauded the state chapter of National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), for its role in championing the cause of women and the vulnerable group in society.
Markson made the commenation when a seven-member Executive of the association led by its chairperson, Mrs. Maria Olodi Osumah paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Yenagoa.
The Governor’s aide who noted that he was particularly impressed with the association’s planned programmes, pledged to work closely with the Nigeria Union of Journalists particularly NAWOJ in actualizing their mandate.
While urging Olodi-Osumah and her members not to relent in advocating issues affecting women and other vulnerable persons in society, called on NAWOJ to remain steadfast in its efforts at partnering with government for the development of the state.
He also congratulated the chairperson of NAWOJ and other members of the association for their victory in the just concluded election and expressed optimism that the new leadership of the body would make NAWOJ proud.
Earlier in her remarks, chairperson of the state chapter of NAWOJ, Mrs. Maria Olodi Osumah said the purpose of the visit was to inform the Chief Press Secretary of the association’s programmes and formally introduce members of the new executive to him.
Mrs. Olodi-Osumah highlighted some of the activities NAWOJ has in its kitty to include, taking up advocacy issues on women, girl child education and the less privilegend in society, adding that the association was ready to collaborate with the office of wife of the Governor to realize its objectives.
