RIVERS UNITED FOR 2016 SHEHU DIKKO ANNUAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

PORT HACORT – Rivers United will arrive Kaduna on Tuesday, November 29, to compete in the 2016 Shehu Dikko Annual Football tournament.

The tournament which runs from November 30-December 5 will constitute the third phase of pre-season preparations for the ‘Pride of Rivers’.




Wikki Tourists FC, FC Ifeanyiubah, Niger Tornadoes and Katsina United are four other Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clubs the organizers have invited to take part to in the pre-season tournament in Kaduna.

Meanwhile, Rivers United won its fourth consecutive pre-season tune up game in Abuja on Sunday, overpowering Adala Football Academy 3-0 at the Goal Project.

United took the lead on the quarter hour when Nzube Anaezemba robbed a defender of the ball at the edge of box and teed up Guy Kuemian Venance who unleashed a powerful finish into the bottom corner.

Veteran, Efosa Eguakun scored the goal of the game in the 70th minute when he effortlessly controlled Ifeanyi Nweke’s brilliant pass before rifling into the top corner to double United’s lead.

Twelve minutes from time, Emeka Ogbugh applied the coup the grace with a simple finish following exhilarating work by Daniel Israel and Bolaji Sakin down the left.

Technical manager of United, Stanley Eguma was impressed with the work-out and explained that his charges are proceeding on the right path.

“We are still building and trying to set up the shape of the team. Winning the game was also good for the psychology of the team. We will continue to play more pre-season games in order to expose and build our players.


“Building confidence and improving the squad as a unit are important objectives in these pre-season games,” Eguma told explained in a chat with the club’s official website, www.riversunitedfc.com.ng.

The win over Adala Football Academy represents the last tune-up game the Port Harcourt club will prosecute in Abuja as they now proceed to Kaduna on Tuesday for the third phase of their pre-season exertions.
